Nan and Bear on the Road to Panama City

There is a beautiful State park just below Panama City. So I checked in and called my grandson that I had arrived.

It is a park that is located on a lagoon.

Great views where ever you looked

My grandson Ben, Great grandson Edward and mother Charity.

Ben and Edward

Bear made sure Ben stayed on the couch just as he did when Ben was little.

Great Grandma of course had to hold Edward some.
He is a heavy little guy.

After a couple of days, Bear and I headed on to visit St. George Island. But alas that park had so many skeeters we only got out when needed. Walks were fast. So after a full day of rain, Bear and I moved along toward home.

Nan and Bear on the Trail of Tears

As I was leaving Tennessee found a sign that indicated I was about to enter a road that had been a part of the Trail of Tears.

It was a beautiful drive across the mountains. Remembering that this was the trail that indians were exiled across.

A lot of the fall colors were showing in this area.

The clouds were down on the mountains.

As I neared the bottom the clouds were still present on the mountains.

This was a great drive and I was so glad that I found it.

Nan and Bear on the Road in Alabama Day 2

Carolyn this is for you, remember driving up this road to the campground? They were not kidding this was an L curve.  Wendy came from Birmingham, so Sara, Wendy and I had a gathering.

We visited a market and I was enjoying taking pictures of the products. Don't eat potato chips, eat green bean chips.

or vegetable chips.

or carrot chips.

And then it happened, I took a picture of this fresh food display and was told that was against store rules. So had to quit snapping pics. So we tested their fresh stuff and left. Only I can cause us to get thrown out of a grocery store.

So we went on to a better place, another German restaurant for lunch. We were met by the waitress you see on the right and she offered to take our picture.

Here we are Sara, Wendy and Nan

Above is the dessert shelves as we entered the store, they asked us to take pictures. (my kind of place)

Then we had lunch.

The decor was great.

The company was great.

We had a wonderful waitress.

We then went shopping for apples and a bit more looking but Wendy needed to get home so she could leave the next day for the cruise. So we bid adeau. Sara and I made a fire and as we were sitting there we saw a great hawk fly over so I grabbed the camera for pictures.

Although he watched me he didn't seem to mind that I was snapping his picture.

Alabama was indeed a fun time, but headed on into Florida to see my new great grandson

Nan and Bear on the Road in Alabama

Sarah came to pick me up and took me out for a lunch at a German restaurant and on to the rocket.

Great food. Meatloaf, german potato salad and red cabbage. Yummmmmy

No meal is complete without dessert. We were so full we shared this. It was delicious.

Hildegard's German Restaurant.

On to the rocket. Found out quickly it was much more than just a rocket.

A stilth plane

A closer view of the rocket

Memorials to the different shuttles.

Just think this was what started flying and the space programs.

The quarantine facility after they were brought home.

The space suit.

A ride to demonstrate a space ride.

All the reasons I did not ride.

More rockets

Moon buggy showing what they saw when landing on the moon.

As we were leaving this was a view of the sky

When people go to the space camp this is where they sleep.

A very nice guard took this picture for me inside the gates.

One more rocket and we were finsihed for the day.

Enjoyed the day so much, found out Huntsville, Alabama offered so much more than I ever thought, decided to stay another day and look some more.

Stay tuned for day two in Huntsville.

Nan and Bear Continue in Tennessee

This is a picture of Jack Daniels. He is the one on the right, the one on the left is yours truly (Nan)

They had some of the original items used in the milling and mash for the brew.

A fine collection of knives were on display.

Musical Instruments used in BlueGrass music

A display of the Smooth Tennessee whiskey.

A Jack Daniel's work truck

We had lunch on Sunday at an Italian restaurant. A friend of Fernie's owns it.  Great Italian buffet.

A salad bar with the buffet.

We visited Falcon rest a mansion very close to Fernie.  It was fascinating.

This was our guide and she was great. Really enjoyed what she was doing and really became involved with her story. She told us that the mansion is haunted. The ghosts are practical jokers but the sounds can unnerve you.

Information on the mill that Clay Faulkner owned. He built this mansion across the road from the mill. The area has changed a lot but at that time it was very open.

No pictures were allowed inside, but the antiques in each room were great. But we could take pictures outside and this is one of the gardens.

This is a new addition, they use the area for weddings and receptions.

The family's carriage with the fringe on top.

Another look at one of the gardens

We stayed and had a lunch. A chicken salad sandwich, sweet potatoe fries with a brownie and pink fluff that was delicious.

Fernie and I chatted and enjoyed the food and visit.

We were told if we took pictures of these windows we would see a ghostly figure....do you see them?

Maybe a view a bit further back and you can see them peering down at us.

Bear and I left and headed over to visit with Carolyn. We took a tour of her hometown. The old railroad that did service the town is now a museum.

A beautiful downtown area.

A full view of the railroad station.

A bit of history of the railroad.

One of the original cabooses  used by the railroad.

Another view of the downtown area.

We returned to Carolyn's nephew's home and enjoyed an evening of visiting.

The next morning I headed down the drive and on through Tennessee.

The cows along the way waved good bye.

Views along the road through Tennessee were beautiful .

Fall has moved into Tennessee.

Clouds are right down on the mountains. It was a chilly rainy morning.

Stay tuned right here our next stop is Alabama.
